In March of 1996, a group of men and women of faith gathered in Springfield, Illinois to form a new medical missions organization called International Health and Development Network (IHDN).
In April 1996, a three-member IHDN team, under the leadership of Dr. Edem Agamah, organized the 1st Health Fair in Agbozume under a mango tree. Community participation in funerals is a major activity in most parts of Ghana. However, IHDN team promoted community celebration of LIFE by hosting the health fair to educate and screen people for hypertension and diabetes. The 2-day event, held on April 8th and 9th, was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, a newly formed village health committee, local churches, chiefs, and volunteer groups.
Most of the participants were seeing a physician for the first time in their entire life.
